We love the city. We love the busy streets, the vendors, the traffic, the crush of sound and color and people pushing past each other rushing through their days.
We love it more at night though when everyone goes back to their suburban homes and families and their television sets.
Nighttime in the city feels like freedom, the streets empty, the sound of tires and breathing and shifting gears echoing off the buildings, the occasional taxi or late night construction crew lighting up the nearby buildings.
Sleep is difficult sometimes, insomnia takes hold more often than not. Midnight rides help to burn off the stresses of the day, to give us space to be alone in our thoughts and a place to push hard on the bike in a setting that normally is full of chaos.
The city at night feels like an empty movie set, like a pause in the action until the crush of the next day's events. The morning will bring the actors back to their places, cameras rolling, the director calling action as the people fill the streets and spaces that were deserted the night before.
We love the city, day and night.
